Our farm is an attraction Open to Visitors who would like to see where fiber is grown, "on the hoof". We have a variety of rare farm animals from many regions of the world such as:
Shetland and Icelandic Sheep Dexter Cattle Norwegian Fjord Horses Our main focus is our collection of ALPACAs and their FIBER. Alpacas are considered the world's finest livestock investment. They are raised as valuable breeding stock for their luxurious fiber and for wonderful pets. We have many to choose from and even offer management of your stock (which we will board). Alpacas, like their cousin the llamas, are from the Andes mountains of South America. WHAT IS A RARE BREED? WHAT IS A FIBER FARM? Many people are familiar with the term endangered species. The rare and minor breeds of livestock which we raise are farm animals which are drastically reduced in number throughout the world. It is our concern that these valuable old breeds are preserved. Most of the animals at Homestead Acres are fiber producing, giving us a product without harm to the animal. We shear the majority them once a year, the sheep for their beautiful wool and the llamas and alpacas for their luxurious fiber. Angora rabbits are not sheared but rather their fiber is combed or plucked and collected over a period of time. Homestead Acres 6720 Ainsworth Rd.
